I have 4 online friends who play as girls because they simply think women are cool.

They don't do it for a joke, they don't do it because it gives them a hard-on, they do it because that's their preference, quite simply. They do not fall under either of your assumptions.

Just look at threads discussing 'why men play as women in video games' and you will find valid reasons apart from your assumptions.

It's really as simple as this: person looks ordinary, person creates ordinary looking character because, when given the ability, they create characters that look like themself.

The hell!? WB games!? I remember when Warner Bros meant watching Pinky and the Brain and other childhood cartoons, now they are making video games with zombies and mini-skirt, chainsaw wielding cheerleaders. lol
