Sharpening on tilted stone (1 of 2)

This is free hand sharpening but with triangular base which maintain 15 degree angle to horizon. So If you keep blade horizontally then you edge will have 15 degree angle per each side (30 total).

Keeping blade horizontal is as easy as eat with spoon - same moves and handling. It is easy at least for me then maintain some angle during sharpening. I used it for a while now and very happy with it.

It is made from Basswood, but may be any (WoodCraft salesman just made it for me by request - very nice pople and they have all equipments nessesary). I only glue leather to increase friction so it will not move during sharpening.

Sharpening shown with DMT Coarse DiaSharp 11 1/2" long (from same WoodCraft). I just move blade like this until I have burr all edge long/ Burr is very visible and yo may sence it on fingertips. Then I move to other side...

i had this exact idea, was going to do a vid, but now it has been done, this method takes alot of the human factor out of sharpening

Now after several years of sharpening this way I come to conclusion that angle is not major factor here, but having enough room for hands to operate around stone. Simple clay brick would works as well. Angle is useful not because it keep edge angle, but because it provude better observation of edge during sharpening then if it is flat. Keeping right angle is not a big deal really - you learn it in few knives being sharpened.

2NominalYT Стоит такая пластина баксов 60, за нескольколе интенсивного пользования никаких изменений в производительности мною замечено не было. .Делают их с разными размерами абразиво от 160 микрон до 6 микрон. Мой рабочий набор 160, 60 и 6 (DMT D8XX, DMT D11C и DMT D11E),

Пластина стальная с "наклеенными" никелем алмазами - обычный алмазный точильный камень. Лучший производитель с моей точки зрения DMT - из цельных алмазов, а не спеченных.
