This was a treat. While attending the 2009 Indianapolis 500, we walked past the lower level of the Indy Museum and was fortunate to see Jim Clark's 1965 Lotus/Ford being started as it was scheduled to run a parade lap. This car was built just for Indy and won. It was only raced once from what I understand and was the first rear-engine car to win at Indy.
It's to bad the rear engine design was taken from indy car builder Rolla Vollstedt..But good to see Rolla finally got the credit for being the first indy car builder who design the rear engine.

A superb racing car....in my book, it is one of the most beautiful designs of ANY era and sits alongside the Gurney AAR Eagle F1 car of 1966/67, which is arguably the loveliest of any F1 design.
Interesting in that both machines were designed by Englishman Len Terry, who left Lotus soon after the Type 38 Indy car was completed and went straight to designing the Gurney-Weslake F1 car.
Nice post.....I have the Carousel 1 model of this (and the Eagle) and would sell my soul to see the real ones.
