This little video shows a side-by-side comparison of pulling the "emergency"/ parking brakes on two bus and brake types (spring brakes and DD3 chamber system) vs. a full service brake application.

  • Simple, one is the spring brakes and are only on the drive axle.

The service brakes are on all wheels and are operated by application of air.

Emergency brakes apply when there is a loss of pressure to the primary chamber, there is no way to simulate this.

An emergency application is like that of an airline getting disconnected on a train, pressure from the tank is greater than the line and one way valves dump pressure to the brake chambers.

And that is why there is a "crossover" valve.

  • i dont get it

  • Very well put together! Paul
