@NYCmadeME blame RATM fans? what the fuck are you saying! real Rage fans know and honor Public Enemy as one of the major influences of Rage.
-
Heyyyy Rage is the shit!
Don't blame them. RATM fans are some of the most politcally active people out there.
Go watch RATM's performances at the DNC and the RNC's.
But I will admit, this crowd was MAD lame..... I'm sure PE was pissed.

white kids are the only ones that can afford to go to these concerts

Almost forgot:that original made for MTV or whatever "Fight the Power" video also was unreal-amazing,perfect to show the racial B.S. that was still going on then (a lot of which still is,but the late 80's were worse,I think,in a lot of ways).I could watch that video 100 times in a row and not get sick of it. PE was/is brilliant, not just musically; they were just mad about things they should've been mad about(and we all should be mad at),and said it better than anyone else ever has,I think.

Sorry-continuing my comment in response to yours NYC-the weirder Beatles stuff. Real far from rap. And my skin's really fair. And although I grew up in a really diverse part of Miami and lived for a while in a diverse part of Philly, I don't think any of that had anything to do with my love of P.E.; if I'd been an idiot racist who only liked rock,I still would've been blown away by P.E. in 1989,and by "Do the Right Thing," by the way. So I'm baffled.Hope history does them justice, but I doubt it.

Thanks, NYC, and thanks for posting such a great video. I actually write for work (legal stuff) and write some fiction as a hobby, and for a while I've been thinking about writing something for the 20th anniversary of "Fight the Power" and see if I can get it published...but I don't know if I'll have the time. Some of those early rap groups were amazing, but P.E....I don't know, they just have something almost NOBODY else has. I love music like Led Zeppelin & late Beatles stuff (the weirder)
The crowd is fucking lame...
PE dropping Fight the Power?
Kids don't know their history I guess. And this was in New York??? Double lame.

Almost 20 years post-"Fight the Power" and I still don't understand why it wasn't then, and isn't now, more popular among people who are more rock-oriented than rap-oriented in their musical tastes. When I hear that song and "Don't Believe the Hype" back around 1989, I almost fell out of my chair...amazing. Ditto for Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing," which obviously helped P.E. a bit with this song...why the heck isn't that movie more popular?
