The Singer not the Song (1/15)

Father Michael Keogh (John Mills) arrives in the small Mexican town of Quantana to find the place under the shadow of evil.

The previous priest is ready to flee, having failed in his battle against Anacleto (Dirk Bogarde), the local bandit leader who has the entire town gripped in terror. Anacleto murders and intimidates at will, chillingly selecting his victims in alphabetical order. He hates the Church with a passion, and makes it his personal mission to break and destroy the new priest.

Father Keogh, however, is far more resilient than his predecessor - and in turn makes it his personal crusade to save Anacleto's soul. When intimidation and attempts at murder fail to drive Father Keogh away, Anacleto devises an even more diabolical scheme to destroy him with the unwitting help of a beautiful young landowner's daughter (Mylene Demongeot).

The scene is set to discover which is truly the strongest power in men's lives - fear or faith...
