Ballet West in CW's new reality series "Breaking Pointe"

"Breaking Pointe" is a reality docu-drama series about Ballet West, the premier professional ballet company of the American West.

Beneath the beauty and glamour of the dance and costumes is a world of extreme athleticism, focus, dedication, passion, pressure and, of course, the hunt for the unattainable...perfection.




The series debuted in the Summer of 2012, and was aired nationally; airing locally on Utah's CW30, and available with online streaming. The series was picked up for season two, to be aired Summer 2013, premiering July 22nd. Stay tuned!

Y'all (Ballet West, that is, along w. CW)!! PLEASE get rid of that horrible pointe shoe image. It signals to anyone w. a bit of ballet knowledge that this show is not to be taken seriously. Truly, it kind of hurts, kind of nauseates me, to look at it. I sadly expect images like that in many contexts (bank or utility co. ads in dance programs, cheesy posters, photos of badly trained dancers, etc.), but this show, w. the participation of Ballet West, shdn't feature that. PLEASE make that go away!

BBC Productions are in charge of the editing for this program. And, as this certainly is NOT representational of our ballerinas, the image was selected as a "play on words" with the title "Breaking Pointe." BW hopes that it will no longer be used for promotional purposes.

Dance Academy is an fictional drama about students in a dance school, this is a documentary type show about a top tier professional ballet company. Not quite the same thing.

Actually, the latest episode today focused on the actual opening and second night of Ballet West performing three ballet productions. The drama was reserved in bits and pieces, especially towards the end.

The show is missing out on a rare, excellent opportunity to educate the TV audience about the world of ballet. Instead, we get 80% young adult relationship angst, and 20% ballet bits and pieces with no explanations for anything that is being seen. Really dumb.
