  • @fromthesidelines The Lunch Counter sketch evolved from Jack's parody of 'The Killers' from November 24, 1946. Edward G. Robinson and Dennis Day played the tough guys.

Benny: Now see here, mister, I want to ask you a question.

Robinson: Now look, bright boy. I ask the questions around here, see? You just answer them and do as I tell you, see? If not, you'll get hurt, see? Now get me something to eat, see?

Day: And be quick about it, look?

  • I reconize her she played Mrs. Portor on I Love Lucy... She played the maid Ricky Hires for Lucy to help take care of the baby and household chores.

  • ...and the sketch was initially performed as a satire on "The Killers", with Edward G. Robinson, way back in November 1946!.

  • This episode originally aired on December 4, 1960- the main sketch was first performed on radio (with Richard Widmark) in 1950; Jack usually "recycled" his best radio material for TV...that's Benny Rubin, Jack's close friend and fellow vaudevillian, seated at the counter; he often appeared on Benny's radio and TV shows.
