Here's some footage I shot of the Midwest Central Railroad during the 2008 Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. This video features the Henschel 0-4-0T #16 steam locomotive. This engine was built in 1951 in Germany and is the only coal-burner on the MCRR. I like to call this engine "Percy" due to its many resemblances to the Thomas & Friends character. He's one neat little engine!

  • Is this a 3 foot gauge line? Cause it looks like one.

  • Yes, it's the last 36" narrow gauge line in Iowa.

  • Why was it not pulling anything? =(

  • Usually for the first 2-3 days of the Reunion #16 doesn't pull anything, although sometimes it pulls the freight train, which is cool to see. I think on Sunday and Monday it pulls passenger trains. I've only got to videotape it once pulling a train. I agree, it needs some cars behind it!

  • The #16 is a backup engine if the #6 or #9 have problems the #16 pulls the train until the engine that is down gets fixed. It

  • I heard from someone recently who works on the MCRR that they are working on replacing the boiler of #6, and it may not be operating for the next reunion ? If that's the case, I'd guess we'd be seeing a little more of #16, which I have to admit I wouldn't mind at all!

  • @RCdash9 yea, my friend and i will hopefully go there when its finished!!

  • made in Germany

  • @EverywhereWest Cool! Over in New Jersey they have little a 36" narrow gauge line called the Pine Creek Railroad, and they also run steam engines. There's this one 2-6-0 steam engine #46, that should be up and running by 2011 or 2012.

  • nice whistle

  • What kind of whistle does #16 have on her in this video?

  • Probably out of recycled Tiger tanks lol

  • i would love to have that engine, green, steam, and reliable, EVERYTHING I WANT IN AN ENGINE :-)

  • the Selfkantbahn engines have a similar design, but they are not build by Henschel but by Jung Locomotive Works in 1956. Cab and frame design, size of the side water tanks are different.
