Of course it is. You don't consider any singular piece of art without also considering the artist. From the artist, you can gauge what meanings would allude to. A good example is Guernica by Picasso. By itself, it really isn't that important. Coupled with the artist, you can easily gauge what he was trying to portray just from his background and know what the artwork is really about.
Just like the two songs, both are different in key aspects because the artist are also.
