Another attempt at recreating the original Southern TV Startup sequence. This time, I have added the original sound track used by Southern and also the original 50's black and white film clip at the end.

  • A very noble effort. The music you have used though is the second recording of "Southern Rhapsody" not the original which would have been used during these monochrome days. I believe Southern Television was always written as "SOUTHERN TELEVISION". Apart from those two minor points you have done a really excellent job.

  • Does anybody remember one of the 'time-burning' shorts that Southern used to show about a woman driving to the sun-drenched mountains with her two children, just to hang up their washing?

How I miss those days when everything was real (because I was so young no doubt?) and TV had GOOD programmes running.

  • I think this was called Southern Star. Being now 47 years old, my sister and I used to gallop around the coffee table when we were seven (me) and ten (her), to this music.

Saddens me to think about how much older I am now, but makes me smile at the memory this music conjures up. I think this must have had some direction on my TV and later cinematography (aerial) career. Sigh!

  • what no A30, oast kilns etc?

  • Incredible - haven't heard this music for AT LEAST 40 years and it came back instantly - those images too. Remember it like yesterday. THANK YOU.

  • I remember this - I even remembered those cows grazing in the field, and the gate. I was looking for this - thank you! I was also about 6 when this was on.

  • I'm six years old again!

  • Thank you for finding this original music. I got goosebumps just listening to it. Wonderful memories. It was a real occasion waiting for the first programmes of the day to start back then. Thank you again!
