Shq'apthut Dedication Ceremony

On Firday, September 23, 2011, Shq'apthut officially opened its doors on the campus of Vancouver Island University with a traditional ceremony featuring a traditional speaker, elders, drummers and singers and various dignitaries, both native and non-native. 20 years in the planning and approximately one year in the construction, Shq'apthut, "A Gathering Place", was a dream and vision of many, many people who poured heart and soul into its realization. In this video you will get a snapshot of the official opening of this facility, a place designed to offer not only support services to VIU's aboriginal students but also a portal for non-native people to the world of aboriginal people.
