I work all day,
I work so hard,
All I got to show for it is a black heart,
You want my pride,
You want my joy,
Everything I worked for you want destroyed,
So you pick on me,
Kidnap my peace,
Drown it under water till the beat's deceased,
Procrastination calls, so on me I cheat,
Giving up my dreams, so I rest in piece,
I eat,
But cant sleep,
Damn it's hard alone, when my eye spring leaks,
My thoughts weigh a ton so my spine is weak,
Running from myself, on a mirrored street,
I run,
But-can't-Retreat,
Hoping that my foot steps lead to a beat,
Music drowning out the pain and the politique,
Numbing out my name's etymology,
You look,
But -no-see,
My tears run tracks ripped deep through my cheek,
Sliding down my nose, dripping from my lip peak,
Flooding to the floor till I'm eye lid deep.

Chorus:
So take a good look at my face,
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer it's easy to trace,
The tracks of my tears

Poetry is the basis for hip hop...

POETRY IS THE BASIS FOR HIP HOP!!!!

RHYMING IS THE BASIS FOR RAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rhyming is a poetic device; it is not supposed to encompass the entire end product. The purpose is to convey an emotion through poetry which easily lends itself to empathy (and being set to music) versus prose which more so lends itself to informative detachment with sprinkles of empathetic episodes.

Here's a quick test...

If you take away the music, with its chords and melodies, and just say the lyrics...do people get the same feeling? A better question, do they feel as though it sounds better without the music getting in the way of the words? If so, it's HIP HOP no matter the content.

If you take away the music and people have no emotion at all. If they are feeling as though it's incomplete without a beat behind it.... IT IS RAP!!!!!!

I'm not saying that rap doesn't have it's place...it does...for those learning beginners HIP HOP. It's just that some stay in class a little too long.
