Yea old downtown Joburg was overran by blacks who turned it into slums. The new CBD where corporates had to retreat is Sandton. New home of the JSE.

@westend104 they deliberatley went overboard with security and police for the football as they didnt want bad publicity in the football season, secret police and undercover agents were in all major towns

@MajorrBison Yeah I just watched a doc "Teach me and I will [something like that]" about emts and ambulance workers in Joburg and it looked SCARY as f! I know a girl from Durban who left in the mid 90's. The doc showed ppl speeding through red lights at night to avoid carjackings. But hell, maybe that's like any urban city. My bf said he did that in Austin, and had a gun pulled on him twice as a manager. Anyway, Prince Harry vacations there, so...it can't be too bad, right?

it kills me when some people think they will be yanked off the streets and attacked by random people, its psychological. It doesn't happen like that.

I would love to come to Cape Town. I was already making plans for a trip to South Africa, visiting Cape Town and Johannesburg, but to be honest I got a little undecided when I saw some video on YouTube about Johannesburg. It seems that is not really safe, expecially for a tourists.

@coms71 You would love South Africa! Johannesburg is a huge city, and not my favorite world tourist destination. Focus instead on Cape Town, the big game parks outside Johannesburg, the wine country around Cape Town, and the Garden Route. All will give you memories for a lifetime!
