Video of a delightful group called "Balandzan", singing about a "tyé kamalenba", i.e. a boy acting like a grown man (or tough). Recorded by Malian television in the early 1990s.

I unfortunately have no information about this group, but if ever I do find any info you'll find it on http://wrldsrv.blogspot.com/.

  • Well, you should listen to old Malian bands like the Railband, or Les Ambassadeurs, lots of Latin-influences. The recent Afro-Cubism project with Malian and Cuban artists is also a great example. Great video! Again by the worldsrv! Thanks

  • Interesting. It sounds as though they had some Latin American influence. From independence up until fairly recently, there seemed to be a lot of exchange of ideas across the Atlantic in both directions. It would be interesting to know what these ladies did after this point.
