The Ex + Mélaku Belay + Zinash Lyon Rail Theatre 12/19/09

Melaku Belay is an innovative traditional dancer, born in 1980 in Addis Ababa. At the beginning of his career,, he received intensive training sessions of performing and choreography from the National Theatre, while carrying researches on various Ethiopian dances. He also took some workshops in Ras Theater and Hager Fiker Theater. On the most prestigious stages of Ethiopia, he performed with many bands and musiciens: Wintana Creative Art Center, Save your Generation Ethiopia, Mehamud Ahmed band, Manalbosh Dibo band, Addis Acoustic Project, Minch band, Abegaz Shiwota, Olaf Boelsen....ect. Melaku performs also all over the world with foreigns bands playing Ethiopian music like The Ex and Getatchew Mekurya band, Le Tigres des Platanes, Badume's band....He dances, for example, in Djibouti, Mali, Niger, France, Netherland, Austria, United States of America. Since one year, Melaku is managing one of the most famous Azmari bet (kind of bar where traditional music is played) in Addis Abeba: the Fendika with new pulse!! He starts also another great project with some friends: the Ethiocolor band. He brings together some of the best musicians of Addis Abeba to promote the diversity of the Ethiopian culture and music. They play every two Friday in Fendika. He has some upcoming concerts in Canada, Europe and in France for the Africolor Festival.

Melaku Belay, aussi jeune soit-il - il est né le 11 mai 1980 - est actuellement lun des danseurs éthiopiens le plus époustouflant. Formé à lécole de la vie depuis son enfance, il sest perfectionné au gré des bars azmaris dAddis Abeba, tout en menant des recherches sur les différents styles de danse éthiopienne. Il se produit sur les plus célèbres scènes éthiopiennes avec différents groupes et musiciens tels que Wintana Creative Art Center, Save your Generation Ethiopia, Mehamud Ahmed band, Manalbosh Dibo band, Addis Acoustic Project, Minch band, Abegaz Shiwota, Olaf Boelsen....ect. De plus Melaku se produit régulièrement sur des scènes internationales avec des groupes comme le Ex band avec Getatchew Mekurya, Le Tigres des Platanes, le Badume's band...ect. Ainsi, il danse à Djibouti, au Mali, au Niger, en France, au Pays-Bas, en Autriche, aux Etats-Unis... Melaku Belay est danseur traditionnel. Héritier dun savoir culturel, il danse les mouvements perpetrés dans 84 tribus du pays (Oromo, Ahmara, Guragés, Tigré, Gondar, etc.) Depuis un an, Melaku a repris l'un des plus célèbres Azmari bet d'Addis Abeba: le Fendika, et y a insufflé un souffle nouveau. Durant cette année, il a débuté un nouveau projet avec des amis: le groupe culturel Ethiocolor. L'idée était de réunir les meilleurs musiciens d'Addis Abeba dans leur domaine respectif afin de promouvoir la culture éthiopienne dans toute sa diversité. Ethiocolor se produit au Fendika tous les 15 jours, le Vendredi. Melaku a des concerts prévus bientôt au Canada, en Europe et en France pour le Festival Africolor
