If you need advice, please PM me rather than posting comments here. I am trying to keep the conversation clean and to the topic. Please note that this is NOT normal and it means that they are starving. If you see this happening in your tank, you need to read up on how they feed and what you need to do.

These are my male/female bamboo shrimp sifting through the sand for food. This is not an ideal condition and this tank was just a temporary setup. Sifting through sand means the are not getting enough food in the water column.

  • I have 2 Small Crayfish and like 20 Ghost Shrimp, do you think that they will get along with a Bamboo Shrimp if I get one? By the way my crayfish have been together with snails, fish, turtles, catfish, and never hurt any of them. So in other words, their shy. By the way, two of the Ghost Shrimp are pregnant!

  • @FLIPminoman absolutely not, the crayfish are night scavengers and you WILL run into issues. They should be in their own tank with no other bottom dwelling mates.

  • i want a bamboo shrimp instead of a crayfish (maybe) so i was wondering if a 15 gallon tank would be big enough? and i have 2 ghost shrimp and they jump when i put them in the net to move them when i clean my tank, wouyld a bamboo shrimp do the same?

  • @Helms97 why are you taking them out when you are cleaning your tank? DON'T do that. Just do a partial water change and that should be enough. You are stressing them needlessly and they will eventually die because of it.

  • wow thats sad....your shrimp are both trying to find food through the sand and you dont even know their starving. Both of them are looking in the sand meaning that their not just looking for food just to do so, but their starving. Always, before you buy any pet look it up. Thats what i always do. I even looked up ghost shrimp before i bought 2.

  • @napoleontak this was an unseeded tank. Proper research has been done beforehand. Both of them lived out their natural life and have eventually become a deep red with a white line across their back. I appreciate your concern, I assure you I am not an ignorant pet keeper.

  • @f1shbone Ok, thanks for the advice, I could have spent $10.00 for nothing! Not to mention that the poor little Bamboo Shrimp would have suffered a fatality.

  • @Helms97 haha. i know you we're neighbors. :P

  • Well, the fish guy at my Petco is actually smart and takes care of their fish.

  • @f1shbone

    finally! somebody agrees with me!

I never buy animals from petco, they dont treat their fish well at all.
