  • I like the way you put the braids in. It's easier to do, especially when working with kids. How much yarn did you use to do your baby hair? I still have 1 whole pack of yarn left and I think I may try to do use it on my lil girls hair.

  • @keepitrealshorty - That all depends on how many braids you are going to do and how long you are going to make them. I use about 1/2 a skien of yarn. (at least that is what I think it is called!)

  • This is the first time I've ever seen anyone's hair braided with yarn. Nice, but I'd like to know...does the yarn harm the hair in any way? Doesn't the hair get caught up in the yarn?

  • @mmorrellwi - we have never seen any damage from the yarn. In fact her hair usually looks really healthy and grows a lot when she has yarn braids in.

  • This is sooooooo cute!!! I love it. I am going to try this about a week after the veil braids, so her hair can rest, but this is cute!! Do you think since my daughter hair is to her backside it wouldn't work?

  • @derekandkeyasha01 - It should work, they will just be really long! You need to cut your yarn AS long, if not LONGER than her hair.

  • I DON'T feel that my daughter NEEDS extra hair. But variety is FUN and my daughter loves it when I do yarn braids in her hair. She ALSO loves it when I do all kinds of other styles in her hair and she in NO WAY has a "short hair" complex. In fact, her natural hair is pretty much as long as the yarn braids that I put in. And we only do them about 1 or 2 times a year. Hopefully my daughter will grow up loving the fact that her hair (as she was born with it) can do so many different things!

  • what sad about this is you a white woman knows how to take care of kinky hair better than alot of black people who just perm it and weave it. Also I noticed you use natural products and you comb from the end to the root which is great.

  • ....This is beautiful

  • very impressive I thnk I might be able to do this!

  • I have tears in my eyes right now! You are an awesome example of how race has nothing to do with being a mother and knowing how to care for your child! She is beautiful and so are you! Thank you for loving her enough to learn how to care for her hair. You are an inspiration to all mothers.

  • What do you think about using bamboo yarn? It's got such a nice sheen to it, more like real hair, but I'm concerned that it would be like wool -- maybe start to stink after a few times getting wet? Or would it somehow damage the real hair?

  • @Katelynylyn You are such a great mother and I hope you know that as a black woman, I wish more black mothers would stop perming their daughters hair and put some loving care into it like you do. God bless you!

  • I know you might not think much of it but I am very happy to see you putting that effort to do you daughters hair. So many times I've seen other mothers in your situation just let their daughters hair go wild and unkept due to the fact that they don't learn to care for it. African American hair is complex and delicate and your doing a wonderful job!
