Ah, yes. Most people who are mestizo in Philippines are half Mexican, not Spanish, which is the misconception. This dance makes total sense now.
Thanks for the info.

Most dances of the Philippines are Spanish-influenced. This dance actually has a similarity to a Mexican dance called La Bruja. The music is obviously Hispanized.

Yeah...(I'm one of the dancers in blue)...and we're from the Philippines...the spanish did take over the Philippines for a while until the U.S. got rid of them and the binasuan has been here for a while...but I'm not totally sure y it's performed. glad u enjoyed it though :)

Cool. Can someone inform me what clan this originated from? Is it without Spanish influence? How old is it? Why it is performed? Thanks.

Binasuan is one of my favorite folkdances. It reminds me of my high school days, when we performed this dance. Galing naman ng mga performers, mga pinay ba sila.

Here is the answer provided by Wikipedia: The Binasuan dance originated in Bayambang, Pangasinan. This colorful and lively dance from Bayambang in the Pangasinan province shows off the balancing skills of the dancers. The dancers gracefully, yet carefully, maneuver glasses that are half-filled with rice wine, while they whirl and roll on the floor.
