"I believe that Steampunk is more than just brass and watchparts. It's finding a way to combine the past and the future in an aesthetically pleasing yet still punkish way. It's living a life that looks old-fashioned, yet speaks to the future. It's taking the detritus of our modern technological society and remaking it into useful things." I agree that it's foolish to think the Victorian Age was better, although what I think is important is that Steampunk is both 'steam' and 'punk. It should involve an understanding that it's not 100% glorification of an era, but a new and alternative stance on it. Steampunk should be fantastical, but it's hard to forget that a lot of what is drawn from history was written by the fortunate. People should be pushing the movement towards something better, not just replicating.

Ahh, the Victorian Age. Eugenics, Social Darwinism, Scientific Racism, Sexism, Nationalism, Militarism, Classism, Imperialism and mass poverty.
A better time! ;D

You sounded frightfully English, there.

Steampunk looks really fun, I've always been a fan of vitorian-steam powered bits and peices, and have never really been punk enough to be a pucker punk. I'm gonna give it a go!
