"I believe that Steampunk is more than just brass and watchparts. It's finding a way to combine the past and the future in an aesthetically pleasing yet still punkish way. It's living a life that looks old-fashioned, yet speaks to the future. It's taking the detritus of our modern technological society and remaking it into useful things." • @HorrorVictorianorum

I agree that it's foolish to think the Victorian Age was better, although what I think is important is that Steampunk is both 'steam' and 'punk. It should involve an understanding that it's not 100% glorification of an era, but a new and alternative stance on it. Steampunk should be fantastical, but it's hard to forget that a lot of what is drawn from history was written by the fortunate. People should be pushing the movement towards something better, not just replicating.

  • Ahh, the Victorian Age. Eugenics, Social Darwinism, Scientific Racism, Sexism, Nationalism, Militarism, Classism, Imperialism and mass poverty.

    A better time! ;D

  • You sounded frightfully English, there.

  • Steampunk looks really fun, I've always been a fan of vitorian-steam powered bits and peices, and have never really been punk enough to be a pucker punk. I'm gonna give it a go!
