I think this was the pillar people were trying to jumpslash to. It just pushed me to the side and right through the wall.

you should position yourself further left. That way there's more chance to jumpslash to the corner. Also, it helps to do on emulator because they have slowdowns and save states :)

Thanks I'll try more left for sure.

I don't have an emulator, and I'm too lazy to get one, so I'll probably just keep trying on a console. If it requires great precision then I'm sure someone with an emulator will be bound to figure it out.
