oh sorry forgot if u get planks and out them on the bottom row of the crafting box and up the sides it makes a bot so you can get over water quickker like this ...

You need to branch mine higher up, you're not at diamond level, you'll never find diamond, you have to be at 13-20 on the y when you press f3, it will show you what your y is which is up and down, you're not at the right level.
