  • @philrizzuto1 - No, its about an old gentleman Jimmy met in the islands (i foget which one) J B was fishing and wound up talking to this English WW 1 vet. The song is HIS life story. This song always invokes a wave of emotion in my 67 year old heart. Beautiful song, bitter sweet. thanks Jimmy

  • @MegaSwingSet yes, I agree..lol.

  • "Buffett wrote the song about Eddie Balchowsky, a one-armed Spanish Civil War veteran he met while playing in Chicago. The song appears on Songs You Know By Heart, a greatest hits compilation that includes Buffett's concert favorites ranging from 1973 to 1979. However, "He Went to Paris" was the only song off that album that Buffett rarely played live, until he find out that Bob Dylan likes the song and decided to start playing it on a more frequent basis." (Wikipedia).

  • my left ear really enjoyed that.

  • Very few songs have the ability to truly touch your heart. This song struck a note in me the first time I heard it that no other song had ever done, or has ever since done.

  • @northfourty It's about Eddie Balchowsky, a one-armed janitor in the White Knight club, where Jimmy used to open for people like Bob Marley. Eddie was a great pianist and veteran of the Spanish Civil War and Jimmy struck up a friendship with him. He died in 1989.

  • Some of its magic some of its tragic but I had a good life all the way........

  • today i watched my grandpa die...and this song was playing in the backround of his room. just as he took his last breath this song gently said "...he went to paris..." jimmy mightve went to paris, but my grandpa went home. <3

love you grandpa, vetran of WWII, you are gone but never forgotten! <3 <3 <3

  • @1jetdrvr You also might want to listen to Jimmy's song "The Night I Painted The Sky" from BAROMETER SOUP. Even so, this is probably his "masterpiece".

  • 13 beings have no clue

  • jimmy listens

"Through eighty-six years of perpetual motion

If he likes you he'll smile then he'll say

...some of it's magic, some of it's tragic

But I had a good life all the way."
