Since Facebook is becoming a virtual high school reunion, I have been recalling those days lately...and, of course, that means memories of my so-called "band" in those days -- TMC + The New Generation. What was TMC+TNG? Well, it is what happens when you have two teenagers who start buying synthesizers, samplers, drum machines and sequencers...and are then introduced to a rapper from Asbury Park who has a bunch of brothers and sisters he enlists as dancers. The result is what I usually refer to as "Run DMC meets Depeche Mode." Anyway, here is crappy video from a performance at the late, great Green Parrot in Neptune, NJ, from either 1989 or 1990, I guess. It is a clip of a song called "Don't Die Poor," the music for which was written by me and my friend Christian Beach, who did all the sampling for this song and was the primary musical force of TMC+TNG (and is now a singer-songwriter...see www.christianbeach.net). That saxophone sound at the end is the result of Christian loading sounds for the next song that happened to be on the same MIDI channel as a percussion sound at the end of "Don't Die Poor." We probably should have worked that out before the show.
