Spongebob's popular version of this Al Sherman-Al Lewis ditty is set to Tiny Tim's campy 1960's retread rather than Maurice Chevalier's superb original, written by Al Sherman & Al Lewis for the 1930 Paramount musical, "The Big Pond" (from which also came Chevalier's "You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me").
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LIVIN' IN THE SUNLIGHT, LOVIN' IN THE MOONLIGHT
I'm so happy! Happy-go-lucky me.
I just go my way, living every day,
I don't worry, worrying don't agree,
Winter, Fall and Spring,
I just smile and sing:
Things that bother you never bother me,
I think everything's fine!
Livin' in the sunlight, lovin' in the moonlight, having a glorious time!
Haven't got a lot, I don't need a lot,
Coffee's only a dime,
Living in the sunlight, loving in the moonlight,
Having a marvelous time.
Just take it from me, I'm just as free as any dove,
I do what I like, just when I like, and how I love it!
I don't give a whoot, give my cares the boot,
All the world is in rhyme,
Living in the sunlight, loving in the moonlight,
Having a wonderful time!
I go swimmin' with pretty women.
and I find life is divine,
Swimmin' in the sunlight, swimmin' in the moonlight--having a glorious time!
When I'm stepping out with my runabout,
How we step is a crime!
Starting in the moonlight, ending in the sunlight,
Having a marvelous time!
I take what I like, get what I like once in a while,
But if she says "no", I let her go and keep on smiling!
I'm right here to stay, when I'm old and gray,
I'll be right in my prime,
Kissing in the sunlight, laughing in the moonlight,
Having a wonderful time!
I'm right here to stay, when I'm old and gray,
I'll be right in my prime,
Kissing in the sunlight, loving in the moonlight,
Having a wonderful time!
  • I wonder if Chevalier would still be happy if he had to pay $7 for a coffee.
  • Hmm, really like this one but it needs something... something like... ukelele... (:
  • Is it me or does Maurice look exactly like the 11th doctor from Doctor who?
  • @MrSkull96 Maurice Chevalier released this in 1930, Tiny Tim released his version 38 years later in 1968.
  • @annalicia2271 He'd probably be pretty disappointed if he found out his own granddaughter likes The Jonas Brothers.
  • The man who wrote this song, his sons wrote the songs for "Mary Poppins", "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", "Jungle Book", "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" ... the Sherman brothers :D
  • This should be the anthem for all optimists.
  • @jooshiscrazy 10 cents in 1930 had the buying value today of around $1.37 (wolframalpha /input/?i=0.10+1930+dollars)
  • @ZechsMerquise73 When you adjust 10 cents in 1930 for inflation, it's worth around the same amount as canned coffee.
  • @mwk323 to which comment?
  • @jdiger101 it was a joke.....he knew that
  • @HuggableSpongebob let's not forget the country was recovering from the Great Depression
