I recently purchased a set of 3 Nikon SB-700s. I was downgrading/upgrading from my previous SB900/SB600 mixed system. I then started noticing a few misfires paired with some annoying beeping during some of my shoots. I did some investigation and it seems like the SB-700 has an extra sensor or light leakage through the red panel in front.

  • I am having this problem with the sb910, my su 800 hasnt arrived yet so i tried to use the pop up flash as master but i just get the beeps from my remote 910. So then i tried to use my sb910 as master and another sb910 as remote but still it beeps. I gaffered the front sensor atleast 3 times this still did nothing. Can someone help pleeaaaseeeeee !

  • @brynnskates It seems as though Nikon has made their IR sensor very sensitive with their latest speedlights. My fix might not work with the sb910. You'll need to find out how to block off the excess IR from hitting the speedlight. It took me a few times to figure out the solution to my problem. Let me know what you find out and post a video. I'm looking to sell my 700s for some 910s now that they fixed the overheating issue.

  • The problem is some of the IR from the SU800 is making to the IR receiver on the SB700.

Put tape over the top front part of the SU800 I used black gaffers tape.

Also velcro the PX xmiter to the front of the SU800 it works better, is more stable, and looks better :)

  • @johnrstudios That's exactly what I'm pointing out. I could block out the IR from the SU-800, but I rely on the red focus assist beams that the SU-800 puts out sometimes.
