Ok. Just to clear things up, please read the following.
Technically (as realised by some) you cannot get the answer from the information in this video alone.
This is a traditional type of riddle where you have to ask the riddler questions to unvail the story leading up to the known mysterious event. In return the riddler can only answer yes or no.
Ask this riddle at a party and you can easily consume an hour if you keep it interesting. Works best with 4 or more people. The more thinkers the better.
The questions a riddler must get his audience to engage are these - What are the events that lead up to this suicide and how is seagull soup involved? As they begin to glean more information, they unfold the story for themselves.
You will have to give clues every now and then if they start to lose interest, but as long as you can influence them to ask the right questions, you will have fun with this riddle. The aim is to let them figure out the whole story.
Here is the foundations of the riddle
1. a couple and their friend go sailing the ocean
2. they are shipped wrecked
3. the wife dies
4. the friend cooks her up and feeds his dying friend
5. tells him its seagull
6. they survive on the soup untill help comes.
7. they meet again at a restaurant
8. as a celebration the husband orders seagull soup.
9. realises the only meat available on the island was his wife.
As long as you understand the foundations of the riddle, you can adapt it for the group you are with and you can tell it with your own twist.
ektnaim does a good version of this riddle in the comments, but here is another example of this riddle just so you get the idea.
The 2 men are longtime childhood friends. The man who jumped had a wife. She was also a childhood friend with the other man. All 3 were succesful business people and had taken some time away from work to sail the seas in the couples luxury yacht.
While at sea, a terrible storm surprises them and destroys their yacht, leaving them treading water for days on end. Unfortunately the wife is separated from them in the next storm that hits.
The two men finally wash ashore a deserted island.
They search desparately for food but to no avail. Days turn into weeks, then one evening the wifes almost lifeless body, still in her life jacket, washes onto the beach. She dies a day later.
The husband and friend bury the wife and that night the husband goes into shock and his body starts to shut down.
Starved, weakened and on the brink of death, the friend becomes desparate.
With no food around, and fearing his friends life and his own, he digs up the body of the his friends wife to make a meal.
Daily, as his friend fades in and out of consciousness, he nurses him .When asked where he got the meat, knowing he would refuse the food if the friend knew the truth, he tells him its seagull. A couple of weeks later, they are rescued.
Time passes and they decide to catch up for a reunion. As a celebration the husband orders seagull soup. One taste of that soup tells him that what he ate on the island was not seagull. Then the realisation of where the meat came from hits him.
Very morbid, I know, but a great riddle nonetheless.
