Author and activist Maude Barlow warns of a coming global ecological crisis resulting from a scarcity of clean drinking water.

-----

Maude Barlow talks about Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Coming Battle for the Right to Water.

In their international bestseller Blue Gold, Maude Barlow and co-author Tony Clarke exposed how a handful of corporations are gaining ownership and control of the earth's dwindling water supply, depriving millions of people around the world of access to this most basic of resources and accelerating the onset of a global water crisis.

Blue Covenant, the sequel to Blue Gold, describes a powerful response to this trend: the emergence of an international, grassroots-led movement to have water declared a basic human right, something that can't be bought or sold for profit - Book Passage

Maude Barlow is the National Chairperson of The Council of Canadians, Canada's largest public advocacy organization, and the co-founder of the Blue Planet Project, working internationally for the right to water. She serves on the boards of the International Forum on Globalization and Food and Water Watch, as well as being a Councillor with the Hamburg-based World Future Council.

Maude is the recipient of six honorary doctorates, the 2005/2006 Lannan Cultural Freedom Fellowship Award, and the 2005 Right Livelihood Award (known as the "Alternative Nobel") for her global water justice work. She is also the best-selling author or co-author of sixteen books, including Blue Gold: The Fight to Stop Corporate Theft of the World's Water and the recently released Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Coming Battle for the Right to Water.

  • I've resolved myself to the fact that the Earth can only support so much human life/activity & therefore there will be a correction in population as a result. Whether that comes from man-made events such as wars, or from natural events/causes such as famine, drought, disease, extreme weather events, is the only question that remains. Even if we used the Earth's resources in the most efficient/responsible way, we'd still be fast approaching a tipping/turning point.

  • @FattKidd yes, i accept that fact too. but are you going to do anything about it? bc its pretty hard to life knowing that it is happening and not do anything about it. im sure you dont ignore the fact that it is happening. so do you continue living in the US or whatever developed part of the world you are from? I certainly will not do nothing about this. I will at least help find some solutions for these ppl. knowing what you just stated, even if it is inevitable, how could you not do anything?

  • To add to my assertion"the answers have been readily available". The last disease to be cured was polio( I think) that was like 50yrs ago. What has been cured since.Nothing! But tons of money is spent researching and developing cures. Our we just supporting the system or actively searching for a cure.

  • The answers have been readily available. Its just that corporations are in bed with politics. people know that a change is needed. Unfortunately, we have to wait for the power brokers to find a way to profit first. example EPA determined mercury is dangerous at any level. FDA indicates that there is a safe levels of exposure. Who is right?I agree with the former, cause the FDA is ran by former employees of big business that profit from mercury filled products.

  • don't worry the earth will have white blood cells known as zombies that will kill us all and once we are gone they disappear and all is anew..

  • The Earth is the embodyment of bounty, fertility and LIFE itself. The problem is with Us not her. Imagine if We Humans as a whole lived Symbioticly instead of parasiticly with Earth and Each Other? I can truly and yet sadly say that i cannot. I fear I have been to far removed. Never let this hold one back from trying! If this video means anything to you consider voting for Dr Ron Paul
