driving down 201 near bingham and saw this.




A local man was killed Thursday when his vehicle crashed into the side of an oncoming pulp truck.

Albert Lopez, 82, died at the scene of the crash on Route 201, Somerset County sheriff's Sgt. Michael Knight said.

Lopez was operating a 1994 Ford Taurus when he suddenly crossed the center line and drove into the side of the truck, police said.

The truck was driven by Alvin Smith, 50, of Carmel, and owned by Matapedia Trucking of Caratunk.

Smith swerved to the right to avoid Lopez at the last second, Knight said, but was able to keep his truck on the road and was not injured.

Knight said it is unknown why Lopez swerved. Speed and alcohol have been ruled out as factors. Knight said there also did not appear to be any moose in the area. The crash remains under investigation, he said.

being up in Nothern Canada we see alot of these some where cars get completly crushed under these trucks...its pretty sad to see and about 5 people in my community have passed away from those kinda accidents (one in which my brother was suppose to be in the car but missed his ride to work that day and turns out that car got crushed by a rig)
