A sort of documentary I made for my Pop. Culture class. This is also my first attempt at directing without featuring myself in the product. It really gave me a new perspective.

  • I love all ska, more of a 3rd wave guy myself though.

  • What an awesome video! The fact that people disagree with your thesis (3rd wave ska is sell-out music) should just show you that you picked a nice arguable point.

  • Most of us have yet to dive into the pleasures of the first and second waves. I have, and I can see your animosity towards us. lol. But any type of ska is fucking good. CAN YOU AGREE?

  • whats up with all the guys from the first and second wave hatin third wave, and the the guys from 3rd wave era hating old ska,,,,,,,, i like all the waves so shut the fuck up and just listen to the fucking music

  • as for your 3rd wave ska kids being Rude Boys, dont make me laugh, most of em are a middle class bunch of pussy's.

  • ... and began releasing records which thanked us for buying and listening to their music. This is what made Reggae the worldwide phenomenon that it is today. Just a shame that these punk bands had to start ruining it!

  • ... this mainly being the involvement of brass. One summer ska slowed down as it was to hot to dance the ska, Reggae was formed then came rocksteady. This is your first wave, in between your first wave and second wave there was a period of skinhead reggae. This is where the Jamaican artists began realising how much the british working class were listening to their music...

  • What a complete Crock of shit. Typical Yank production. Firstly 3rd wave is an abomination of Ska and Reggae, every gig i do i get kids coming up to me asking for some shit punk ska band. They have no idea of why we dance to ska nor do they appreciate the smooth sound of real ska and reggae. Ska developed from Jamaican Calypso and Mento, it also mixed in sounds of american soul and jazz...

  • I love ska. I listen to all genres of ska. I would have to confess that I listen to third wave more often than others. But in the end I always find ways to enjoy all styles of ska. 1-3

  • Pretty good documentary. I don't completely agree with Third Wave ska selling out, though. I know plenty of people that still enjoy The Skatellites, The Specials and other 2nd wave or 1st wave bands. I think Third Wave ska has evolved the genre more than sold out - in the same sense that rap has changed from the 80's to how it is now - lots of people still love the old stuff, but nobody plays it that way because the music has become something else.
