Fame begets copycats in Minnesota elections. In 2008 a write in vote for "the Lizard People" was widely reported during the hotly contested recount Al Franken/ Norm Coleman recount. During the recount for the Minnesota's Governor's race several write in votes for "The Lizard People" have shown up. Here Former Chief Justice Eric Magnuson who is representing Republican Tom Emmer's campaign and David Lillehaug who is representing Democrat Mark Emmer's campaign find such a vote while reviewing ballots. The Emmer campaign had challenged thousands of ballots in the recount, many of them because they had write-in votes the Emmer campaign said were really "identifying marks" which are prohibited under Minnesota law. Election officials ruled the challenges were "frivolous" and the Emmer campaign agreed to review and withdraw most of those challenges.
