Damn this is good >.< I would love to play this version of the game.
-
I hope some people at bioware are watching this, what you are describing sounds like a game I really want to play.
-
@smudboy Then instead of completely removing it, why not consider implementing it into the game? For example, adding it to the faction system you proposed; wearing the N7 badge earns Shepard negative favor with Cerberus, and vice versa. I think something like that would strengthen the RPG aspect of the game as apposed to just removing it entirely.

I love exposition too. Just not mindless ones. I also like symbolism that, you know, symbolizes something.
Exactly that: you must only deal with what you're given, and not use some supplementary material. Shepard's status in the world is important: in no way does it have anything to do with N7. (Further made pointless by their death/no longer being a marine.)
-
@smudboy Of course your entitled to your opinion, but I like small little widgets of detail that increase the overall lore of a fictional universe, rather it's directly tied to the narrative or not. I believe it's those things that indirectly support the narrative that help you get truly immersed. Not to mention, that this is a video game. It's not a movie or a book; both of which are linear. So to me, commander Shepherd's rank is important, even if it's just some tiny widget.
-
I believe you're speculating. On a military rank. That has no significance.
-
@smudboy Not to sound repetitive, but I believe that's what the (7) in N7 stands for in the systems alliance.
-
Then they should have a symbol for Commander.
-
@smudboy Why would anybody mention that he's/she's an N7? In my opinion that would be very awkward. His/Her title is Commander, the rank of commander in the systems alliance is (7) Nobody is going to call him/her 7 Shepard. (N) represents his/her branch of military (the special forces). On a lighter note I would assume that when the top diplomatic humans got together to pick a potential spectre, that all of the candidates were 7s of their own branch of military.
-
Once again, referring to the codex/supplementary material to explain symbolism is not good storytelling. It can be used as a glossary, but not as the de facto source. Shepard was important because the big 3 humans said so (at the start of ME): they didn't say because he was an N7. In fact, no one said anything about their designation to warrant custom armor components throughout the galaxy.
@GattsBerserkArmor
And once again you're unable to explain or point out what is broken about it, will not email me whatsoever, and continue to simply tout an opinion without any facts, reason, argument, or idea.
Good day, and good luck.

@lodiped
There's quite a lot broken, as shown and described in the Mass Effect 2 Plot Analysis.
