It is great to see a GSD herding. People often forget that they are in the Herding group and not the Working group. They aren't typically used for herding anymore (including my own, which are working) but it still is nice to see them used for what they were originally bred for.

aww how cute i love german shepards!

When I was young, we always had a German Shepherd or a GSD cross to bring the horses in from the pasture at night. Their instinct is truly amazing. This dog is fantastic. Not many GSDs are doing this job in this modern age. I am so glad that you are keeping the tradition alive!

But you have to remember that this is the dogs very first time on sheep. The first time, you want to evaluate instinct, which this dog has. Over time with training you improve. How far you go is dependent on the dog and the traininer.

I love GSD's so much

sorry... hit enter before I finished it...
border collies seem to use the same kinda technique as the GSD here. I guess they call them the "hard dogs". Meaning that they don't have to get really close to the pack to change their direction. As you might notice that the sheep changes direction before the dog even get close.

I saw dogs whit grate instincts, and GSD too. As I watch this video the only thing what I saw is that, a dog chasing some sheep, but he is not interested in them enough. A good GSD now how to balans without teaching, but this dog is only running after the sheeps, and the only reason why thely are keeping together couse thely are sheeps...
The dog is not too bad, bat not too good either.
It really was amazing to see that instinct kick in. The instructor (Ferrah) said that he was "awesome" for his first time in and that his "light bulb" moment came very quickly. I'm sure that Mischka would love it, too.

Did I mention that Stretch had never seen a sheep before entering this pen? I think that it's amazing to watch that instinct kick in, to see that dog just know what to do and how to do it.

Very very interesting video Ron, I am impressed! It is for the first time seeing the german shepperd doing this. It is exactly as the GS legend says. Impressive work my friend!! Bravo

Catalin, my friend, thank you for your compliments. Coming from an excellent trainer such as you, that is flattering. What you say about the GSD legend must be true, since this was the very first time that any of my dogs had ever seen a sheep. It was amazing to watch them go into the pen and just know what to do by instinct.

Amazing. A GSD that can herd the S in GSD! I don't know who own's the mother of that dog, but he should bred some more just like him :) I could just eat him up!

But, of course, this is from the famous von Prufenpuden "Q" litter. Also known as the J & J Productions Litter No. 1 (Julchen and Johann). Stretch had a blast and it was the most fun his handler had with shoes on in a long time.
