http://www.myboxingcoach.com - A Boxing How To Guide on Ducking. There are two main reasons why a boxer ducks during a contest. The first most obvious reason is as a boxing defense to avoid an opponent's punches. The second reason is to engage the opponent with body shots, particularly straight shots and long-range hooks. There is a third reason, which relates to 'feinting' to draw a reaction from the opponent, but this is dealt with in other videos. Ducking is one of the most simple manoeuvres to learn, and when executed correctly and at the right time opens up many avenues for attack.

When learning to duck, it is very important to observe the simple mechanics to avoid introducing the common faults. When bad habits sneak into the technique of the duck, the penalty paid can be severe! Watch the videos on uppercuts and I'm sure the likely result of getting it wrong will become apparent. • @HordeWTFPWNER You're not wrong. Body movements such as the duck, slip and roll are proactive defences i.e. you don't wait for a shot to be thrown, you do the move in order to avoid shots that might be thrown. The hand defences such as blocks and parries are reactive defences i.e. you see the shot coming and block or parry it.

  • As with all your other vids - Useful, down-to-earth coaching. Thanks.

  • @myboxingcoach Sir, you know what you're talking about

  • youre second video for me watching, i have to subscribe. Youre the man... but question: just droppin down, gravity seems to be the speed, and bending over is dangerous but you can use your abs to drive your head down out of the way. Would it be wise to use both simultaneously?
