VISA 110 Final Project: The "Good Life" [HD]

Artist Statement (149 words):

In this video, the augmented space I considered and chose to feature was the point of view towards my iPod Touch every time the music track changes. On my way to an exam review group with my buddies at Irving K. Barber library one afternoon, I recorded my whole trip starting from the confines of my home (or more specifically, my bathroom), until finally reaching my destination at the IBLC in UBC. Only during or after each time the music track changes to the next song do I record my surroundings for a short period of time. The reason for this is that the only times people tend to view their iPods during a commute is to change (or view) the song, and since every position of the way we hold our devices varies randomly, I thought it would be a fun task to exploit this specific augmented space.

Final Project #3 Description:

Create a 3 minute (max.) video (straight, looped or back and forth loop) that explore how images work to reveal reality, mask reality and/or have nothing to do with reality. In this way, suggest how they may also be a means of representing the connections between physical space and virtual/data space.

In the vein of the Situationists, map part of your everyday space, in ways that rethink the linearity and logic of how you know it, to reveal new interesting perspectives. These sequences of images (either still or moving) should represent and abstract a space that you consider an augmented space, to explore how our society is informed by the spectacle.
