Here is the article I mention by Atul Gawande about McAllen's expensive healthcare:

According to the New York Times, President Obama had his staff and senators read the Gawande article:

Here is Gawande's response to skeptics:

  • this is a great idea, a lot of people will benefit from this video.

  • I'll be attending medical school this August, and now I kinda regret entering this field... when did medical care become a right instead of a privilege? Doctors are losing their dignity and money, wasting their youth, getting sued, sacrificing family life and sleep, and carry the burden of saving lives. Not to mention doctors die earlier and go through hell in their studies... *sigh* Anyone in med school think that it's a good idea to turn around?

  • Thank you so much for the links on health care reform, I have been reaserching the issue but have not found anything too infomitive but, these sound promising. Thank you for the videos, I plan on going to medical school myself and all of your information about the hands-on patient experience keeps my eye on the ball. Good luck on your fourth year!!!

  • time flies by fast

    good luck doc!

  • Rethinking what I wrote there really is no difference I suppose because egalitarianism is the moral doctrine that equality ought to prevail among some group along some dimension. The main concern with those who advocate egalitarianism is equality of results, which is the prime objective of socialism.

I do see that Obama has flaws in his system (as mentioned). Is his main premise, "Making sure every American has access to high quality health care...", important? I don't agree with everything, but

  • to clarify, i'm not calling you a sheep deviant, just other commenters who PMed me and roast me for no reason lol

  • Thanks, but can you explain the difference? I'm not too clear on that.

I love how I got ranked down for disagreeing with the sheep above. Thanks guys bleeeeaaatt

  • I don't think it's socialism, I think it's more egalitarian. I do, however, share the same concern with malpractice caps for physicians. It needs to happen.

  • Usmedstudent, until Obama gives some malpractice caps for physicians, then neither the AMA nor myself will support his socialist plan.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Obama does not realize this or he does not care. He said he opposes malpractice reimbursement caps, but still wants docs to "just stop" practicing defensive medicine.

    Ain't gonna happen!!

  • Hey,

I'm really appreciative for all these posted videos, and it's really, no joke, inspired me to pursue my dream a little more.

    =] keep it going!
