Man, youre a smart guy. heres my questions. What do you know about christmas? When was "Jesus" really born? How many books with in the "bible" that hasnt been documented? What other book merged with the bible with in the roman empire? I do believe in God, because I believe in an "maker" What does the Name God mean?
I know it through study of the cultural context, specifically a series of Social Science Commentaries of the Bible by Pilch and Malina. Both are non Christians. But they are excellent scholars and that is where my information on honor/shame comes from.
Dear god. In the ancient world, the culture revolved around two things. Honor and Shame. Crucifixion was not meant primarily to extract pain, that was an added benefit. It was meant to shame the victim. Hell is a part of the honor/shame system. By shunning a sovereign god, we reject his honor. We are rewarded with a proportionate amount of shame in hell. It is NOT a place of literal fire. Fire, weeping, gnashing of teeth are all ancient expressions of shame.
I don't care what he believes, it's the fact that he claims all this shit. Like he knows it. He's the only Christian with insight and logic, but it's because he twists shit around and says any random stories in there are symbolic?
So, 99% of Christians now and back a thousand years, just never knew it was symbolic, but, oh, he knows.
Just fucking accept some shit is beyond our knowledge, that's all I'm saying.
Jesus Christ did your voice ever drop.

If you never question something, you'll believe it, reguardless.
