So many people around this time tried so hard to be "alt", and ended up pop. Matthew Sweet dreamed about being "pop", and ended up alt, and classic at that. Fantastic song....

Robert Quine RIP, tragic loss. He was an all time guitar maestro, and a total original.

Matthew is coming to the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor next month. I can't believe it! I haven't heard a thing from him since 1996 or so. But I may go see to just regrab a piece of the past!

Given the natural disasters that have been happening worldwide, the last verse is VERY timely indeed.

this was written after his breakup with his long-time girlfriend. Can't get much better inspiration than that eh?

@lemontin you're right. the cd sleeve booklet says "Richard Lloyd".

1st album i brought from him was not a dissapointment very happy the whole album rocks
I'm quite sure that's Richard Lloyd on lead guitar. Robert Quine does not play on this song. Matthew Sweet plays the rhythm guitar, bass, all vocals and piano.
Apt description of the playing though..
