USCs Class of 2010 Commencement Ceremony
The Class of 2010 was sent off in grand style. The USC campus was packed with students, teachers, parents, grandparents and other well-wishers. Every seat in the house was taken. In fact, if you wanted a good seat you would have to get there at least by six oclock a.m. Many people showed up early and would place articles of clothing on each seat to reserve them for other family members. I showed up at 7:30 a.m. and was out of luck for any kind of seating.
Former L.A. Police Chief William J. Bratton accepted an honorary doctor of law degree from the universitys president, Steven B. Sample. We were told that Dr. Sample is retiring after 19 years of service to USC.
Later on in the afternoon we had a chance to listen to a great speech by former LA Police Chief Bratton in a smaller graduation ceremony at the USC School of Policy, Planning and Management. Our own David Barboza was graduating with a masters degree in urban planning.
I would like to acknowledge USCs Alex Gonzales the USC Bookstore Accounting Services for his personal kindness for helping to get seniors out of the hot sun during the commencement ceremony. In addition, we would like to send out a Kids Talk Radio thank you to Abdusalam Abdul-Khabir for going out of his way to find seats for seniors that would having difficulty finding seats with the massive group of well-wishers coming in the USC commencement area. It was great to see people finding ways to help each other. Instead of saying, Sorry we are just out of seats. I am going to remember all of the personal acts of kindness at USC.
