I have a similar thought.
Len is trying to be a perfect singer by developing a style but when the truth of having to learn and understand reaches him, he notices that he isn't able to understand and learn everything in his current style and changes/kills the former one.
This goes over and over until one is born who carries all of the styles/skills of the former, just as wished, but doesn't want to sing because all this is to much for him and so kills the actual Len.
