A BBC news report from Bhopal, India, 25 years after the Union Carbide gas leak that killed over 8,000 people. The people of Bhopal are still suffering from this event.

Today is a morbid 25 year anniversay in Bhopal, India. On Dec 3, 1984, an American chemical plant (Union Carbide) leaked 40 Tons of methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas. 8,000 people died over 3 days. Tens of thousands died later, over half a million survived their exposure. The legacy is birth defects, cancer, stunted growth. Present day, ground water is still contaminated by the now abandoned chemical plant. (Independent testing found cancer-causing chemicals at a density 1000 times higher than WHO acceptable quantities in water people drink.)
