@Rodnox There is a product now that you eat and your skin smells like roses, so I guess it is kind of like eating roses.

Like today as well, back than rosewater and rose leaves are some of the most common used ingredients in cosmetic products.
But just as all them chemical filled cosmetics, eating roses did not help.
But in all fairness, mary pickford didn't need them anyway. ;-)

1. In those years, shooting (film making) needed broad daylight. Fair weather, that is. Wedding and honeymoon needed it as well. One supposes... :)
2. Pickfair was the name of the Pickford/Fairbanks couple's estate.
