http://www.ted.com Julian Treasure says our increasingly noisy world is gnawing away at our mental health -- even costing lives. He lays out an 8-step plan to soften this sonic assault (starting with those cheap earbuds) and restore our relationship with sound.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate. • @alan23alan The US is the biggest government that promotes war and it hasn't suffered fully for doing so yet

  • One who walks in another tracks leaves no footprints.

  • The number of morons that ignore health is alarmingly high, evident from the number of dislikes to the video!

  • @potofgravy His third point was the physical damage. He didn't rank one over the other. Typical skeptic.

  • Thumbs up if you had to listen to the uncompressed and compressed several times before you heard the difference.

  • Oh wow, "sound healing" -- really?

  • This guy is talking trash.

  • @alan23alan If you think the intelligent are immune to the ravages of idiot wars, then we have one more moron.
