Product Review: Loreal Excellence HiColor for Dark Hair Only in H1 Coolest Brown
Found @ Sally Beauty Supplies for $5.99

Additional Items to Purchase: gloves, small bottle of liquid or creme 30 volume developer (you need 2.5 fl. oz), and bottle applicator.

I absolutely love this product, this is the first hair dye that I have used that has worked on black hair. So it really is meant for dark hair. I have used other colors from this line and it has not disappointed me. For this video I am using H1 Coolest Brown and it lifted my hair 3-4 shades lighter and the color itself turned out fabulous. I have tried to dye my hair with other products before and I have never reached a true brown like this product. The other dyes that I have used before has always turned it either black or a dark red color sometimes red/orange color. So I am very happy with this product and I will continue to buy it.

I am also happy with how my hair feels afterwards. I have used alot of hair dyes in my life and this is one that has not been so harsh that my hair could not recover from. Again, I also use Bumble and Bumble Creme de Coco afterwards to help my hair become healthier faster. But I just recently discovered this and without it my hair still feels fabulous after the use of hair dye. It still keeps its shine and softness.

The HiColor line also has Red and Blonde HiLights, which was the first items that I used in this line. I have not tried the Blonde HiLights yet but the colors in the Red HiLights are awesome, see colors I've used before below:

HiColor Red HiLights (Magenta and Red)
I love these colors, remember these are meant for highlights these will not be like manic panic. So for example if you have black hair from the start it will give it magenta or red highlights and become more evident in bright light.

HiColor Blonde HiLights (Ash Blonde)
I have not yet tried this. But I have it. I will create a new video if I do end up using it. So stay tuned.

  • i currently have the hicolor in red and i wanted to dye it a soft brown using the hicolors as well. since you mentioned that you tried the other colors, how was it dying it from red(ish) to brown? i fear that the new brown will turn out very light because my hair isnt that dark right now its fairly light/bright because of the red. did you have trouble getting the color you wanted?

  • @Yanely262

Hi...I would wait till the red fades a little more. Otherwise the red will over power the brown and make it a brownish red. As far as dying it with the soft brown. I used a 30 volume developer and left it in for an hour to get a lift that was 1-2 shades lighter than black. Which made it a medium dark brown. I did use it again after 48hrs because I wanted a medium soft brown....Hope this helps.

  • wait, where can you buy 40 volume developer?

  • @minigrl12 You can find 40 volume developer at a beauty supply store. The store I purchase them from is Sally's Beauty Supply.

  • Dude..how much is this stuff? (:

  • @PollyannaKem I purchase these products from Sally Beauty Supply and the dye is about $5.99 and the developer is about $1.79.

  • did you like the light auburn hair colour? if you have a picture could you please post it so i could see. i really wanted to dye my hair the colour didnt know if it would look good though

  • @LosewithHonesty The intense red in this line is meant for highlight so they will be visible depending on lightening. If you want the true color to show you would need to bleach your hair slightly lighter or use the 40 volume. It can be damaging and you can fry your hair. I have had no problems because i use it for a very short amount of time and condition my hair really well afterwards.

  • @saywhatx4ily I would start with the 30 volume. It will slightly change the color but if you want more of a change I would go with the 40 volume but you need to watch your hair and dont let it sit for longer than 30 mins. You will also need to condition your hair really well afterwards.

  • @Rachellbbyyy Using a 40 volume developer is going to fry your hair. Going from a very black to ash blonde takes careful planning and is hard to do if you have never done this before. I would first go to a salon to get this done. But if your adventurous and experience I would do this in several steps. By using a blue based bleach. Then applying a toner to remove any orange/yellow color. Once Once you have a nice base you can apply hair dye in ash blonde. Careful to not go green.

  • @thekawaiiotaku Well I don't think there are one day hair dyes...but there are a variety of temporary hair dyes which wash out after a couple of weeks. I like to use Manic Panic, Kool-Aid (yes the kind you drink), Streaks N Tips, Clairol and etc. You can find these at Sally Beauty Supplies.
