2 year old GE Microwave oven JE1860BH04 with the magnetron causing arcing and burning.
Can see red hot spot a few times, best at about 55 second.
Magnetron WB27X10305
Found the magnetron antenna cap with hole burnt/melted.
Hum... about an hour later, my hand feels kinda strange. DOAH !

  • In my case, something had been put in the microwave thaqt my have had lead paint and it had pointy edges in a flower shape design. ANd then aftger that the microwave trube (magnetron) woukd ark to other surfaces inside the oven (the wave guide, not the oven chamber). As I stated before, the magnetron needs to be repkaced and whereever it was arching to needs to be cleaned up of any burn marks or careon traces. Needes to be smooth and repainted or the new magneron tube mayh start to arc again.

  • Nope, can not say what caused yours to fail. The one in my vidio started arching lie that after someone put in a ceramic decorative bowl that had flower shapped design with pointy edges, and maybe leaded paint (from China).

I found a replacement magnetron tube online, and I filed off and repainted the arching marks inside the oven (Wave guide). Ansd has been fine since and has been fine since (2 years).

  • This is exactly what ours started doing today! Sears says it will cost about $300 to fix it, and won't sell the magnatron without a technician order to install it! Looks a lot like the oven we have...

  • @tontar

I found replacemnt magnetron on ebay from someone parting thiers out.

That arching is arcking from the magnetron to someplace on the microwave frame. Will need to sand-file that smooth and repaint or a new one may start arcking in same place.

I later fouind out that ours started arcing after wife put in some painted pottery thing, maybe it had lead paint.

Have fun, but dont electrocute yourself.

    Dave.

  • why is this happening? i just had a case in our office for burning a microwave.,..

  • @Davevredman I got a replacement free form GE after complaining strongly. I put it in, and it worked fine for a couple months, then started arcing again last night. I pulled off the aluminum coated cardboard cover so I could see it arcing, and it wouldn't arc without the cardboard cover in place. I left it off, and have been using it all day to test it out, and it seems to work fine. I wonder what the deal is with that!

  • 4 years ago ours died, just died (different microwave.) any idea how that happened?

  • thats what you get with ge aka crap-e

  • they are not as good qulenty as they use to be
