Enrichment is used to encourage natural behaviors such as foraging and nesting. Several types of enrichment are provided for the Atlantic puffins located in the Sea Cliffs exhibit. Aquarium staff introduce items like pine needles and plastic plants to the puffins. Using their beaks, the birds carry these items to their nesting sites. This activity helps adolescent puffins develop nesting and burrowing skills.
