this one recently moved up to one of my favorite neil songs. something really innocent, pure, heartfelt and true about it. that chorus, man.

The story goes that Nicolette Larson was out to visit Neil and they were driving in his Jeep and Nei's demo of this song was playing in the cassette player.. Nicolette loved the song so much that she asked Neil if she could cover it and he let her. He even held off the release of Comes a Time so that she could put her version out there first and help with her career! Nicolette's version was kinda on the pop-side but hey guess it sold records.

I agree with you - her version is with the band playing at a bit of a higher tempo and is definitely arranged in a way that suits this type of song better - a lot more pop friendly. Young's style was more rock/folk/southern - in acoustic guise he did more justice to deeper darker songs. Just for interest - maybe check out She & Him 's (Zooey Deschanel) version of this song - a bit more experimetal - also a great version :)

Of course there are going to be differences between how it sounds when a female sings it in comparison to a guy - Neils version appeal to those who enjoy his style of music! If you want blown away listen to songs like Heart of Gold and Old Man etc by Young - then you will see his depth & how when the music suits his depth be blows others away!
