In order to use expiring URLs with S3 Amazon, you need to set your files to private. This is done via the ACL settings. For this tutorial, we use CloudBerry S3 Explorer Pro, the most versatile S3 application to manage files on S3 AWS and CloudFront at this time off writing. If you want ot know more how to protect your videos and audios on S3 Amazon, there is a whole range of articles about the subject on www;mriacletutorials.com

  • Yes, I got that warning too. My advice to you is that set your videos to private and use an expiring URL. You may want to check out S3Media Stream for WordPress (just google it)

It will manage private streaming videos and audios so that anyone can see your media but not hotlink to it from another site.

  • please help, I set the videos in my bucket to public because I was told other people won't be able to view the video - now amazon has warned me and sent me an email advising me to set it to private, but if I set it to private people wont see it. I'm going to use the video URL in an flv wordpress plugin - whether it's set to private or public the video URL remains the same, I'm so confused..it's just one thing after another with the internet :(

  • Thank you for posting this. It was simple, quick, and got me out of a JAM! Great wishes your way.
