Punta Roca - La Libertad, El Salvador - April 10, 2007

Macking South Swell hits Punta Roca, El Salvador on April 10. 2007. Sets on the swell approach 15 ft. (20+ ft faces). The swell jumped overnight from 6-8 ft. to 10-12 ft with 15 ft sets. Only a handful of locals and surfers made it out, with several surfers getting denied.

you're right, no one has ever heard of punta roca before. definitely a secret spot! pretty much impossible to find. funny also because on this day when it was a solid 15 ft (video is of smaller waves) there were only 5 guys (including myself) out because of the size. my guess is you would be one of the guys on the beach.

great attitude. if no one posts any videos of surfing, then no one else will start surfing and we can keep the sport a secret! make sure next time you're down there to tell all the salvadorians in the line-up that you want the place to yourself and don't want any tourist dollars coming down to support the local economy.

if you search "punta roca" on youtube, you'll see that the rest of the videos are posted by locals!

I spent three nights at Hotel Rick in La Libertad last month. Punta Roca has big waves, surfers and (obliviously) a very rocky shore...not really a sandy beach. Puerto de la Libertad is a good vacation destination with plenty of seafood restaurants and a choice of hotels to suit every budget. Bus transportation is frequent to San Salvador but try to get there from the eastern (east of the airport) Costa del Sol and it is infrequent.

And if anyone wants to keep it secret it should be the poor Salvadoran locals who have to put up with hundreds of dick-head Gringo surfers from California who think they own the place.
