Guest Speaker Joe Brummer presents a 3 hour workshop on Nonviolent Communication (NVC). Joe's quest to understand the capacity for violence began from his personal experience with violence. He is twice the victim of violent crimes.

NVC is a process developed by Marshall Rosenberg and others including Carl Rogers. It is a process for listening with deep compassion.

NVC focuses on needs of individuals for successful outcomes and is used in such difficult situations as hostage negotiations.

The two modes of use for the NVC model are empathy and honest self-expression including expressions of gratitude. This includes simple familiar words such as please and thanks!

Here Joe presents sympathy vs. empathy This clip introduces communication habits and speaks about why fix it mode, storytelling, and shutting down block successful communication and outcomes in personal and business relationships.
